The First Lady, Her Excellency Angeline Ndayishimiye, launched the activities of the National Forum on Girls’ and Women’s Education and the “Africa Educates Its Girls” campaign on December 3, 2024, with the aim of guaranteeing a fair and inclusive future through girls’ and women’s education.

These activities were organized under the theme: “Promoting Girls’ and Women’s Education, a Strategy for Ensuring Equitable and Inclusive Success Throughout Life”. All national and international speakers emphasized that girls’ and women’s education is essential to guarantee a fair future. They also stressed the need for a collective effort to meet this challenge, which exists in several African countries.

In her speech, the First Lady indicated that this event is proof that Burundi pays special attention to promoting girls and women, in line with the call made by His Excellency the President of the Republic: “TOGETHER, ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.”

The First Lady also specified that providing girls with equitable access to education and inclusive development is a fundamental pillar for achieving the vision of an emerging Burundi by 2040 and a developed Burundi by 2060.

She expressed joy in participating in this initiative with all stakeholders working for youth education, to pay tribute to girls and women who have overcome numerous obstacles to reach their full potential, and to encourage those who continue to fight to build a better future for themselves and their families.

Her Excellency Angeline Ndayishimiye also added that the discussions taking place during these three days of the forum will highlight the progress made in girls’ and women’s education, while hoping they will help identify concrete and sustainable solutions to the challenges and obstacles that still hinder their full flourishing and development.
