A major milestone was achieved in Senegal with the signing of a partnership agreement for the ambitious “Projet Bi”, bringing together the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MASAE), the Ministry of Family and Solidarity (MFS), and Couvoir Amar. This innovative initiative aims to transform the lives of 500,000 rural women by promoting sustainable poultry farming and fostering economic autonomy.

An Unprecedented Opportunity for Rural Women

The BI Project stands out for its massive scale, targeting half a million women with tools, training, and resources to adopt environmentally friendly poultry farming practices. Each participant could generate a potential monthly income of 148,250 FCFA, lifting countless families out of poverty and creating a pathway to long-term self-sufficiency.

This economic empowerment initiative is designed not only to improve livelihoods but also to position women as critical contributors to Senegal’s food security and sustainable development. Through improved practices that require fewer inputs like feed and medication, the project offers a cost-effective, eco-friendly model of poultry farming.

Women at the Heart of Inclusive Development

By focusing on women in rural areas, the BI Project addresses systemic barriers that have historically excluded them from economic opportunities. With this program, women become agents of change within their communities, fostering development and reducing poverty in Senegal’s rural regions.

This partnership also aligns with broader goals of gender equality and sustainable development, as outlined in global initiatives like the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 5). The inclusion of environmentally conscious practices adds another layer of impact, ensuring that economic progress does not come at the expense of the environment.

A Shared Vision for a Resilient Future

The collaboration between MASAE, MFS, and Couvoir Amar underscores a shared commitment to empowering women and ensuring their central role in Senegal’s development agenda. By scaling up the impact of this program, the government and its partners demonstrate how strategic investments in women can drive inclusive and resilient growth for the entire nation.

Empowering Women, Strengthening Senegal

The Projet Bi represents a transformative opportunity for Senegal’s rural women, offering them the tools to not only improve their own lives but also contribute to the prosperity of their communities. As it unfolds, this initiative could serve as a model for other countries looking to harness the power of women for sustainable development.
